ONE MILLION - ITEM 2361 - MONUMENTAL Porcelain Vessel

Starting from a large scale colored pencil drawing from the series OPEN SHAPE I had a porcelain monumental vessel created in the 2,000-year-old ’World Capital of Porcelain’ Jingdezhen in China, according to my specifications. This object is 2.30 meters high and 1.20 meters in diameter and weighs about 800 kilos.

Monumental vessel of this size are made of stoneware or ceramics, but not porcelain. After very long research I am glad that I found a workshop in Jingdezhen, China, who took the challenge to produce my design for a porcelain monumental vessel of this magnitude. Out of six tons of porcelain a total of four monumental vessels were created, of which only two emerged intact from the glost firing.

In August 2017, I traveled to Jingdezhen to paint one of these two porcelain monumental vessels in collaboration with a professional porcelain painter – according to the motif of the colored pencil drawing OPEN SHAPE 19.

My porcelain monumental vessels represent my scope as an artist in the 21st century. Perspectives, desires and conceptions of individuals, as well as world views, ideologies, and visions of social developments are presented in my pictorial motifs. Even though I have been such a short time in the world, I would like to create works of art that will remain for a long time. Porcelain lasts centuries and becomes a ’Storage Medium’.
