What if a single object could connect people all around the world?
Since 2014, Berlin-based artist Uli Aigner has been pursuing the vision of creating one million hand-thrown porcelain vessels as part of her long-term art project ONE MILLION. Each vessel is unique, numbered, signed, and connected to its respective owner. Together, these vessels form a continuously growing global network of people – a shared space made tangible through a physical object.
In 2023, the Museum of Prehistory and Early History presented a major exhibition of the artist’s work at the Neues Museum, placing the forms of her porcelain vessels within the long cultural history of drinking vessels. In this spirit, and as part of the 200th anniversary celebrations of Museum Island Berlin, the Museum of Prehistory and Early History invites the public to a very special communal drinking ritual.
On September 2, 2026, ONE MILLION celebrates the first 12,000 porcelain vessels of this 300-year art project. At the heart of the event is a long communal table where owners of ONE MILLION vessels come together to symbolically “set the table with the world.”
The evening follows one simple rule: only wine and water will be served, and no one pours a drink for themselves. Instead, all participants pour for one another. This gesture becomes a ritual of mutual care and shared responsibility.
ONE MILLION understands itself as a project of de-hierarchising the world. It brings together people of different generations, professions, backgrounds, and ways of life, creating encounters that transcend social boundaries. The project encourages an open and fearless engagement with people who think, live, or act differently from ourselves.
The porcelain vessels may be sold, exchanged, gifted, or passed on. Each object comes with a 300-year guarantee, transforming it into a carrier of responsibility across generations. ONE MILLION explores how communities can emerge, grow, and endure over long periods of time.
In doing so, the project connects humanity’s oldest and newest technologies. The ceramic vessel is among the earliest cultural inventions of the Neolithic era, while the global network of vessels is digitally documented and accompanied by contemporary technologies, including Artificial Intelligence. ONE MILLION makes visible how technologies have shaped societies for millennia and continue to create new forms of social connection.
Owners of ONE MILLION vessels are invited to bring their vessel to the event. Those who own multiple vessels may invite additional guests. People who are not yet part of the project can become ONE MILLIONAIRES on site: vessels can be acquired or exchanged in return for a contribution toward production costs. In this way, the network continues to expand into new social and cultural environments.
Become One in a MILLION.
Every single person changes the image of the world.
